Delabole Slate Quarry, by Thomas Rowlandson: 1808
Return
Cornwall is well known for its ceramic granite clays, slate, and other quarry
building products. Delabole, near Camelford, was known for its great slate quarry.
Slate is sedimentary rock, formed in flat layers. This slate can be split into
thin layers, then the layers loaded onto wagons and transported. Rock can be ground
down into small pieces using a watermill for this purpose.
